Maryam H’madoun is a doctoral researcher in the department of economics at the University of Antwerp, where she studies the influence of religiosity on work, time, and social preferences. Ms. H’madoun is a founding member of “Boss over/of my own head” (BOEH!), a feminist organization with a mixed Muslim and non-Muslim membership. BOEH! fights for a woman’s right to choose whether or not she wears a headscarf.  Consequently, BOEH! opposes equally any attempt to make a woman wear the headscarf or any attempt to ban it from the public sphere.  Ms. H’madoun is also affiliated with Motief, a non-profit organization that promotes inter-religious dialogue by offering workshops, courses, and other forms of training to individuals and the public on topics related to faith and society.
