On Monday, January 4, 2010, KARAMAH hosted a visit with a delegation of six Notre Dame Law students visiting Washington, D.C. to explore opportunities in the public interest sector of law.
The students were participating in Notre Dame Law’s Galilee program, a 3-day student-designed trip aimed at broadening their understanding of the legal profession by meeting with public defenders, legal aid attorneys, governmental law agencies and other social service professionals.
KARAMAH introduced the law students to the organization’s current activities and worldview in support of legal and religious rights of Muslim women. KARAMAH’s lawyers and scholars then discussed concepts of Islamic law and real-world applications of Islamic law in the U.S. and around the world. The group also discussed opportunities for law students from Notre Dame and other universities to participate in the Law and Leadership Summer Program (June 7-25, 2010) or pursue legal internships and fellowships at KARAMAH.
