KARAMAH's "Liberty for All" Student Essay Contest: Ideas for Improving Religious and Civil Freedoms

The contest offered students an opportunity to compete for $1,000, $500 and $250 awards while they suggest what ordinary citizens can do on a grassroots level to strengthen the religious and civil liberties of all women in their communities.

Dispatch from Brussels: KARAMAH Trains Women in Islamic Law and Leadership at U.S. Embassy

KARAMAH held a special Islamic Law and Leadership Workshop at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. During the one-day event, a team of lawyers, professors and Islamic scholars conducted trainings in Islamic law, conflict resolution and leadership development.

KARAMAH Co-Sponsors World Justice Forum II in Vienna, Austria

November 11-14, 2009
KARAMAH is pleased to serve as co-sponsors for the second World Justice Forum, to be held November 11-14th in Vienna, Austria. 500 prominent leaders from around the world will gather at this multidisciplinary invitation-only event to develop actions to strengthen the rule of law. Dr. Azizah al-Hibri Delivers a Talk on Islam, Law and the Roots of Democracy in America - October 13, 2009

Professor Azizah Y. al-Hibri, President of KARAMAH, Islamic scholar and law professor at the University of Richmond, discussed the possible influences of the Quran and early Muslim history on Thomas Jefferson and the Founding Fathers. KARAMAH Speaks at Peace Conference in Utrecht, the Netherlands

KARAMAH Hosts Visit with Delegates from Indonesia

KARAMAH met with two delegates from Indonesia visiting the U.S. under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.The talk explored advocacy methods in the U.S. and Indonesia in support of Muslim women and programs to encourage women’s leadership, civic participation, economic independence and access to education, healthcare and social services.
