In line with our continued commitment to
civil rights of Muslim Americans post 9/11, we have also
taken an active role in the current National Security Entry-Exit
Registration System (NSEERS) program under which the Immigration
and Naturalization Service (INS) has required all non-citizen
males from certain Muslim countries to register at one of
its offices by a specified date.
We
are part of a coalition that acts as Human Rights monitors
on the days of the deadline for the various registrations.
On these occasions, monitors collect basic formation about
the registrants and document their experiences. Where legitimate
complaints existed, KARAMAH has taken action by contacting
the appropriate authorities and informing them of the infractions.
KARAMAH hopes that its monitoring and mediation will
redound to the benefit of all parties concerned.
