KARAMAH Attends White House Iftar Dinner - September 1, 2009

 


KARAMAH joined distinguished members of Congress and diplomats for a White House Iftar dinner hosted by President Obama in honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In his remarks in the State Dining Room, President Obama reaffirmed his commitment, expressed in his "New Beginning" speech in Cairo, to support the rights of Muslims, from practicing one's faith to the "pursuit of peace and the dignity of all human beings." At the event, Dr. Azizah al-Hibri, Founder and President of KARAMAH, met with Congressman Conyers (pictured above), Congressman Ellison, Congressman Carson, Attorney General Eric Holder, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, among others.

Other guests at the event included Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Commerce Deputy Secretary Dennis Hightower, Education Deputy Secretary Adam Miller, Rep. Rush D. Holt (D-N.J.), and Sen. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.).
