KARAMAH and Peaceful Families Project Host Talk on Domestic Violence

On Sunday, May 31, 2009, KARAMAH and the Peaceful Families Project joined to host a discussion on domestic violence at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center in Sterling, Virginia. Women of all backgrounds from across the DC metro area attended the two-and-a-half-hour educational program, which consisted of speakers and open discussion.

Community members listened attentively as speakers discussed the basics of domestic violence and ways to identify it, social services available to victims and survivors, and legal action that can be taken. Following the speakers, an open-floor discussion and question-and-answer session was held. Speakers included:

- Salma Abugideiri Co-Director, Peaceful Families Project

- Ambreen Ahmed Foundation for Appropriate and Immediate Temporary Help (FAITH)

- Saba Ghori Advocate, Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP)
