Ms. Abdulaleem is a Senior Trial Attorney in the Employment Litigation Section, in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms. Abdulaleem handles complex civil litigation under Title VII in federal district court concerning hiring, promotion, reinstatement, termination, backpay, terms and conditions of employment and disparate treatment. Ms. Abdulaleem is responsible for developing investigations, settlement negotiations, monitoring Consent Decrees, attending court conferences and related hearings. Ms. Abdulaleem also previously worked as a Senior Trial Attorney in the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices, in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms. Abdulaleem serves on the Civil Rights Division, National Origin Working Group Post 9/11 Backlash Subcommittee. Ms. Abdulaleem is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Ms. Abdulaleem was a Labor and Employment associate in the Philadelphia office of Ballard Spahr LLP and at the Atlanta office of King & Spalding LLP. While at the law firms, her practice focused on traditional labor, employment and civil rights litigation. Ms. Abdulaleem has experience litigating complex discrimination cases, conducting comprehensive training programs on equal employment opportunity and developing and revising employee handbooks including EEO and sexual harassment policies. Ms. Abdulaleem has significant pro bono experience that includes: representing a client in a successful petition for asylum and providing legal services to the National Commission on the Voting Rights Act in connection with the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act. Ms. Abdulaleem is a graduate of Yale University. She earned her law degree at Harvard Law School where she was a student attorney for the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. She was also on the editorial board of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. Ms. Abdulaleem was elected to the American Law Institute in March 2009. Ms. Abdulaleem is married to Talib Karim and mother to one son.
