In line with our continued commitment to civil rights of Muslim
Americans post 9/11, KARAMAH took an active role in the National
Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS) program under
which the Immigration and Naturalization Service (the INS)
has required all non-citizen males from certain Muslim countries
to register at one of its offices by a specified date.
Karamah was part of a coalition that acted as Human Rights
monitors on the days of the deadline for the various registrations.
On these occasions, monitors collected basic formation about
the registrants and documented their experiences. Where
legitimate complaints existed, KARAMAH took action by contacting
the appropriate authorities and informing them of the infractions.
KARAMAH hopes that its monitoring and mediation will redound
to the benefit of all parties concerned.
